Alex Myers is keeping deeper secrets than just his pet ferret, Karma, who is illegal in California. Both Alex and his twin sister, Tabitha, can “hear” the thoughts of animals. It’s an ability he puts to good use working at an emergency animal clinic while studying to become a veterinarian.
One night, local animal-control officer Dylan Travers comes into the clinic with an injured fawn, and it doesn’t take the two men long to act on their mutual attraction. But the closer they become, the harder it is for Alex to keep Karma and the rest of his menagerie from Dylan. And then there’s the matter of his ability…. Will Dylan even believe him if he tries to explain?
Add to that debilitating migraines from especially “loud” animals and a scheming coworker threatening the clinic, and Alex needs Dylan’s support more than ever. Alex just wants to keep his job, his pets, his lover, and his sanity. But he can’t do it alone.
First Edition published by Torquere Press, 2009.

Men in Uniform
Why are the men in uniform so desirable? I’ve seen this question asked over and over again! Personally, some uniforms do it for me, and some don’t. A military uniform? Not so much. A firefighter’s uniform? Oh yes.
In my book Keeping Karma, the uniform in question belongs to Dylan Travers. Dylan is an animal control officer, and the way he looks in his work clothes is definitely not lost on Alexander Myers! Alex works in an emergency animal clinic that often receives injured wildlife, and when Dylan brings Alex a deer that was hit by a car, Alex can’t help but take notice of Dylan’s uniform.
A friend of mine told me that she loves a man in uniform because, for her, it brings with it a sense of authority and power. These attributes aren’t everyone’s turn-ons, but for my friend, they certainly are! I wouldn’t say that I have a uniform kink. I don’t fantasize about dress blues or shiny badges pinned to shirts. But somehow I feel a man in uniform stands taller, has broader shoulders, is more confident. And those things are sexy.
Keeping Karma is a re-release, but remains one of my favorite books ever since it was first written in 2009. A vet student that can hear the thoughts of animals, Alex Myers finds himself in emotional trouble when he meets a handsome animal control officer who seems to be just as nice as he is good-looking. Dylan’s uniform isn’t the only thing that catches Alex’s eye, and as the two of them get to know each other better, Alex doesn’t know how to hide his special ability.
The excerpt below shows just how taken Alex was when he first encountered Dylan. Enjoy, and you can read the rest of their story (and Karma’s) on August 24, 2016!

Tory Temple lives and works in southern California where she happens to spend a lot of time around firefighters. It makes for excellent storytelling, so Tory definitely uses that to her advantage! She is guardian to three pit bulls who only attack with kisses, two snobby cats, as well as other assorted friends from the animal kingdom. (Husband included.) Her fondest wish is to be a stay at home dog mom. You can tempt her with promises of cheese and/or Mexican food. On Saturday nights, she is usually watching Netflix and thinking about how to get the newest firemen in her head to hook up.
