Felice Stevens – Romance, NY Style!
Hello, everyone, and thank to you the Alpha Book Club for inviting me to guest blog here once a month. For those of you who have never read one of my books or heard of me here’s a little background.
I was born in Brooklyn, in an area called Flatbush and have lived here all my life. I love Ne York City; the vibe, the diversity and of course, the food. The tag line: “The City that never sleeps,” is so true. At any time of the day or night the streets and subways are crowded and alive with people. I love being able to step out of my apartment at any time and be able to grab a sandwich, a cup of coffee or a glass of wine if I want.
My love of books started young; my father was never without a book at his side. A book and a dictionary. If I didn’t know a word, he never told me, just pointed to the dictionary and told me to “look it up.” I grew up reading anything I could find: from Dr. Suess to Nancy Drew, to Black Beauty. In my teens I started reading the mysteries my father loved so much-Rex Stout’s Nero Wolfe books to Mary Stewart’s romantic suspense.
And then I found romance. My first? Shanna by Kathleen Woodiwiss. I’m not going to get into all the romance books I’ve read but I found myself getting swept away by the glamour and the overall arc of the romance in the books. Law school didn’t allow for much reading outside of case law and legal briefs, but whenever I needed a break, I’d pick up a romance to take me away form the harsh realities of life.
And isn’t that why many of us read romance? We work hard. Life is hard. We need an escape; something extraordinary in our lives to make us feel good. Romance novels fit that in spades. We fall in love and call the men our “Book Boyfriends” and talk about hem as if they are real. We hurt for our characters; we root for them and want them to overcome the struggles they face. All so that they could find the love and happily ever after that waits for them at the end of the story.
Of course we realize it’s not reality. But are we looking for that when we pick up a romance? Not all the time. We want our people to be real and representational, not stereotypes and caricatures of the people we write about. But I want that happy ending— that “Awww” moment when my two guys realize they love each other. For some, it’s a punch in the stomach, especially when they are they type who’ve been fighting it all along.
So that’s what you’ll see in my books. A lot of push-pull between the men, a lot of hot, sexy times and a whole lot of loving.

Felice Stevens has always been a romantic at heart. She believes that while life is tough, there is always a happy ending just around the corner. She started reading traditional historical romances when she was a teenager, then life and law school got in the way. It wasn’t until she picked up a copy of Bertrice Small and became swept away to Queen Elizabeth’s court that her interest in romance novels became renewed.
But somewhere along the way, her tastes shifted. While she still enjoys a juicy Historical romance, she began experimenting with newer, more cutting edge genres and discovered the world of Male/Male romance. And once she picked up her first, she became so enamored of the authors, the character-driven stories and the overwhelming emotion of the books, she knew she wanted to write her own.
Felice lives in New York City with her husband and two children and hopefully soon a cat of her own. Her day begins with a lot of caffeine and ends with a glass or two of red wine. She practices law but daydreams of a time when she can sit by a beach somewhere and write beautiful stories of men falling in love. Although there is bound to be angst along the way, a Happily Ever After is always guaranteed.
