Oliver Hayes wears his heart on his sleeve, and his friends never let him forget it. Every Friday night spent at Wild Side, their favorite West Hollywood bar, Oliver’s lack of hookups becomes the hot topic. It’s not that he doesn’t want a good time. He just wants it to *mean* something, which is a lofty goal when he’s still pining after his childhood crush, Matt, who left ten years ago to start a new life in New York City.
Matt Daniels has always felt most at home seated at a piano. He might not have entirely fit in with his family and friends, but he was always able to find himself in music. Or at least he did before he gave up his dream a lifetime ago. Now, he has a successful modeling career and should be enjoying every second of it. Yet nothing feels right, and Matt fears he’s losing himself.
Just when Oliver decides to get over Matt for good, Matt waltzes back into LA. As Matt struggles to understand what he’s missing in his seemingly perfect life, he falls right back into leaning on Oliver for support. Things aren’t what they used to be between them, though. They tumble into bed together, and it’s hard not to continue ending up there. For the first time in years, Matt’s inspired to compose again, reigniting a spark he thought long extinguished.
But as always, Oliver can’t keep his heart in check, and soon Matt realizes he’s gone for Oliver too. The biggest question is, can he fully give himself to someone if he still hasn’t figured out how to love himself?
This is the start of a new series from Riley and I can’t wait for the next one.
I loved this story. It is about 2 best friends. Oliver has been in love with Matt forever but he knows that can’t be anything but friends.
Oliver is one of the best characters I have ever read. He is loyal, honest and wants people to be happy. He comes from money but that doesn’t affect him in any negative ways. He is generally a great person and friend.
Matt grew up with not having much but music made his life brighter. He meets Oliver when his mom comes to clean their house. At first when Oliver tries to befriend him, he doesn’t want to have anything to do with him but one day when he thinks no one is home, he starts to play the piano and Oliver catches him. Ever since that day they have been the best of friends.
They made plans to move in together and high school. Matt decides at the last minute to tell Oliver that he is going to NY to try his hand at music. Oliver is devastated but life goes on. Oliver has his other 2 best friends and that friendship was really great to read. They all cared about each other so much. They don’t hold any punches and tell Oliver he has to move on from Matt. He knows they love him but unfortunately he isn’t ready to give up on Matt.
10 years has pasted and even though they have kept in touch, life hasn’t been the same for either of them. Matt left his music behind and became a model. Matt’s life is spiraling out of control for him. He is depressed and doesn’t know why. He decides to go home to relax and hang out with his best friend. Oliver has always been there for Matt and this time is no different. Oliver is there for Matt and tried to help him. Matt feels like he failed Oliver because he gave up on his dreams of making music. Now I am only touching on this amazing story between 2 best friends who were made to be together. This is a must read for anyone who loves a true story of love and the struggle to go for what you want. I am always in love with Riley’s stories and her characters but this one is beyond. I found myself smiling when they ate Lucky Charms together and reminisced about the old days and crying when Matt realizes that Oliver was his to love all along. It was beautifully written and can’t wait to see Chance and Myles get their own HEA’s. I didn’t want to give too much away of this story but if you don’t love it as much as I do, I will eat my hat!! The only negative about the book is that is ended and I wanted more of these 2. A big CONGRATS to Riley on another winner.
