Meet the Beteferoce brothers. Five dragon shifters, each with a strong elemental power. And each with a fierce desire to find his soul mate…
For years, dragon-shifter-slash-firefighter Jake has been searching for his mate, but he’s beginning to tire of the search. Maybe soul mates are only for the lucky few.
Then he meets Shae.
A former navy welder, Shae is handsome, talented, into power play and rough sex, and covered in dragon tattoos. All of this suits the shape-shifting dragon just fine—until he finds out that Shae literally has Jake’s family crest already tattooed on him. A coincidence? Or something more…
Jake must convince Shae to trust him as a man and as a Dom before the heat between them burns out of control. Becoming a dragon’s mate is not without danger, and Shae will need Jake’s guidance—and love—if he’s going to make it through alive.
This book is 95% sexy times between the sheets. There was little to no plot, but my post-exam brain was very VERY happy with what I DID find.
The main characters, Jake and Shae, were absolutely ON FIRE, pun intended. When I started reading this novel, I was really looking forward to all of the customs that might be part of a dragon-shifter world and I really wanted to know how Michael would portray shifters, since there can be a lot of variance between authors in this genre. I didn’t quite get the shifter story I was looking for, but I did get an equally as entertaining payoff. The term “dragon-shifter” in this book is used pretty loosely. I didn’t get to read about the post-shift dragons, but Shae did have some serious strength and the tattoos were pretty hot.
Jake was an incredibly likable person and Shae seemed like a good fit for him, but I mean, what’s there not to like about a couple when all you know about them is the repetitive ways in which they have sex… so, it was lacking a little bit in the plot department. The entire plot was basically a loop and when they weren’t having sex they were eating, and sometimes the sex interrupted the eating because what is food for anyway?
I’m not sure I would say that Jake and Shae were “fated” to be together and they were “perfect” for each other, because you don’t really get the kind of depth need in this book to know that, but they were definitely hot together and Branded by Flames was a good read for what it was. I’m not sure I’d recommend this for M/M romance readers, but if you’re looking for some M/M erotica reads? This one is pretty good.
