Elliot Mills comes face-to-face with evil in this follow-up to Fair Game and Fair Play from bestselling author Josh Lanyon
One final game of cat and mouse…
Ex–FBI agent Elliot Mills thought he was done with the most brutal case of his career. The Sculptor, the serial killer he spent years hunting, is finally in jail. But Elliot’s hope dies when he learns the murderer wasn’t acting alone. Now everyone is at risk once again—thanks to a madman determined to finish his partner’s gruesome mission.
When the lead agent on the case, Special Agent Tucker Lance, goes missing, Elliot knows it’s the killer at work. After all, abducting the love of his life is the quickest way to hurt him.
The chances of finding Tucker are all but impossible without the help of the Sculptor—but the Sculptor is in no position to talk. Critically injured in a prison fight, he lies comatose and dying while the clock ticks down. Elliot has no choice but to play this killer’s twisted game and hope he can find Tucker in time.
Top Ten Things You Must Have in an FBI Romance by Josh Lanyon
1 – A whole lotta history between the romantic leads that is going to make it difficult for them to work together.
2 – They still work great together despite that painful whole lotta history thing going on.
3 – Jargon. Acronyms. The alphabet has never sounded so sexy. From KSA to LEAP, it is high speed/low drag verbal gymnastics ATW for these SA LEOs. KWIM?
4 – Glock is the New Black. Somebody is going to be shot. Or has been shot. Or is afraid of being shot. Maybe all of the above.
5 – A wardrobe that nobody can afford on a special agent’s salary.
6 – At least one, possibly more, actively hostile local law enforcement officer(s). Especially if the case takes our agents to one of those states with bayous, swamps, deserts or any geographical feature under the jurisdiction of a powerful older man in a limp white suit named Big Daddy. Er…that would be the name of the man, not the suit. Unless this is an episode of the X-Files.
7 – A duel to the death with a master criminal, ideally a serial killer. THIS TIME IT’S PERSONAL. ALSO NEXT TIME. ALSO THE THREE PREVIOUS TIMES.
8 – Totally inappropriate and probably inopportune but, yeah, sexy as hell coupling–frequently following too much alcohol. Bonus points if the killer is somehow actually watching and can send a creepy follow-up note: I know who you are and saw what you did–and doing that on copier machine is a good way to put your back out.
9 – Revisiting the Past – The current case will lead back to an earlier unsolved case that is both special and painful to at least one of the romantic leads, as indicated by several paragraphs of italics ending in ellipses. Much as their previous relationship did…
10 – A HEA. This will follow the inevitable show-down, generally concluded with bullets once the bad guy finishes explaining in detail why he committed his crimes and where the evidence to put him away for life can be found–though it will probably be unnecessary now. This is not the important part. The important part is when our two special agents finally talk. Yes, they FINALLY talk it all out and realize there is no one more special than this particular special agent.
