At 19, Beck Barretti is living two lives. To his family, he’s a young man trying to find his way after years of battling a mental illness that nearly cost him everything. But to the rest of the world he’s just another privileged kid with problems. The truth doesn’t even lie somewhere in between because Beck’s entire life is actually about keeping secrets.
From the people he loves.
From the ones he doesn’t.
Spending a summer in Dare, Montana with family friends isn’t about starting fresh – it’s about escaping the crippling darkness that threatens to consume him.
Until one encounter that was supposed to mean nothing ends up changing everything…
Quinn Donovan had the life he’d always dreamed of until a brutal act of violence ripped it all away. Even though he’s found a new future working at the CB Bar Ranch in Dare, Montana, he’s not interested in trying to get back what he once had. All he wants is a quiet life that includes a job that’s worth getting up for each morning and hanging out with his best friend, a black and white Paint stallion named Koda.
But nothing prepares him for the strange twist of fate that brings not one, but two men into his life…
Brody Wilder is done hiding in the closet. As the son of a political scion, he’s spent his entire life hiding the truth about who he is just so he could inherit a legacy he never wanted. But those days are behind him and he’s starting a new life in rural Montana where he’s saving lives as a paramedic and building a successful construction business that would surely horrify his old-money, society-loving family.
After years of denying himself, he’s taking advantage of his newfound freedom by indulging in random, meaningless sexual encounters that are about pleasure, not emotion.
So no one is more surprised than him when one night in the back room of a sordid gay club leads to something more…
Can three men who came together by chance find the hope they need to build a future with each other, or will they end up letting their fears determine their destiny?
“We don’t get to pick and choose the people our futures are with or the circumstances under which we meet them.”
Finding Hope is book number 5 in author Sloanne Kennedy’s Finding Series. This is my first book of this series, although I had no trouble falling quickly down the rabbit hole and loving this story, in addition to welcoming characters from another well-known series, The Protector’s. So, don’t worry if you have not read books 1-4 in the series, I hadn’t and I was just fine. I want to just state clearly, if you have a problem with ménage, hot sex, this book may offend you. In addition, if you may be triggered by abuse, suicide, and/or prostitution, go into this book with caution. While these aspects don’t “take over” the story, this is a romance after all. The abuse, prostitution, and suicide are there, and they are part of what makes one of the MC so in need of love.
So, Finding Hope, is told from alternating first person POV, rotating through our three MC, Beck, Quinn, and Brody. I always enjoy alternating well plotted POV stories as it allows the reader to get inside everyone’s head and fully understand all the intricacies of the characters.
This story takes place mostly at CB Bar ranch in Montana and then a resort being built in Dare Montana. I am a sucker for cowboys so I loved that aspect. Since I grew up riding horses, I appreciate the accuracy that Ms. Kennedy detailed different aspects of ranch life and the equestrian way of living. So a A+ for setting and world building, yet again, I don’t think this author has let me down yet.
The character’s in this story initially meet while letting off some steam. When they part ways, none of them ever expect to see the other again…yet, our author knows what our men need and weaves their second meetings quite spectacularly.
Throughout the story, these three Beck, Quinn, and Brody learn to trust each other and fall in love. This is no easy thing as all of these men are broken and bring a past full of hurt, hate, loss, grief, and loneliness – each one has a unique past, but all the same, they all need love and hope. Which they quickly find comes in all forms, and is found when you are least looking for it..even on a horse ranch in Montana.
“Until he’d kissed me…until he’d made me feel something I’d spent a lifetime not feeling. Alive.”
I don’t want to share the back-stories of our characters because each reader needs to experience it as intended. While getting to know the MC and reading the book.
This story is full of passion and heat.. these guys have a lot of fun together as they learn what makes the other moan, while exploring each nook and cranny of each others bodies.
“He was a fucking lamb among wolves. But I knew it was far too late to stop. I wanted him too badly. And I could tell he was too far gone in his need for anything but release.”
Overall, this is a solid 5 star romance that with have you laughing, crying, yelling, and smiling…it shows how letting go and healing from past wrong doings, hurt, and loss…can allow you to find a second chance love that is magical and will change your life!
“I was…happy. Such a simple word and yet it was changing everything for me. Colors seemed brighter, food tasted better…the list was endless. I was finally living my life and I no longer cared if I was “normal”or not. Normal was relative. Many would say my relationship with two men at the same time wasn’t normal. My thoughts on the matter…so be it. I would choose them over some predefined notion of “normal”any day of the week.”
“And I knew in that moment that was exactly what was ahead of us. Our whole lives.”
I am adding this series to one of Sloanne’s I now need to go back an read all of the books because this book was so good! In addition, I can’t wait for her next story – I have included the character tree created by Sloanne Kennedy, this shows you the overlap and intricate weaving of world’s that Ms. Kennedy has created and continues to build on…it’s brilliant!
