Liam Scott is sick. That’s not supposed to be possible. As a wolf shifter, he’s supposed to be able to heal. The omega gene he was born with means he’s capable of carrying shifter young and Liam is worried that whatever is wrong will mean his one-day hope of having pups will be dashed. But despite the fears keeping him away from the doctor until now, he knows he needs to go.
It turns out the sickness is temporary, but the treatment causes a whole other problem.
Mason’s alpha gene means he’s one of very few wolves who can impregnate an omega male. For two years, he’d been watching Liam, but things kept getting in the way. When Liam shows up in heat, Mason recognizes the opportunity he needs and doesn’t hesitate make to Liam his mate and the father of his pups.
But Liam has old wounds and fears to work through which the pregnancy is only making worse, and Mason isn’t sure how to get past them to show he’s serious about making a life together as loving mates. It’s not until a female wolf decides Mason should be hers that Liam makes his biggest worry known—and Mason can finally put the fears to rest.
This is a shifter/mpreg tale with a bit of a difference in that shifters live and work alongside humans and don’t have to hide the fact that they are controlled by the full moon for a couple of days every month. Our two main characters in this scenario are Liam and Mason, who work for the same company and although Mason is considerably higher up the metaphorical tree, he is not directly in charge of Liam.
Shifters aren’t supposed to become unwell but when Liam is struggling, a trip to the doctors finds him getting medication which may cause him to exhibit signs of being in heat, potentially causing him huge problems. Not being one to shirk his responsibilities at work, Liam hopes that he can deliver his finished paperwork to Mason’s office and make it out without anyone detecting his raging hormones – easier said than done, especially since Liam is an Omega and Mason is an Alpha. Liam isn’t is Mason’s office for long before the two react to each other and before we know it, the two are going at it like rabbits. This is about as romantic as the pair get. If you’re looking for a story with emotion, courting and a deep connection, you’re barking up the wrong tree and It really felt like the pair were just scratching an itch – where’s the love guys?! They have supposedly fancied each other for a long time but since when did an Alpha character need any encouragement to go after what he wants. I’m afraid I just didn’t believe that these two were doing anything other than trying to make sure that Liam was pregnant with as many pups as possible. I seriously have no problem with copious amounts of sex but their sex scenes failed to raise any interest in me and I found them a little boring and tiresome. There’s only so many times I want to hear about Liam and his undie-soaking-self lubricating ways or Mason and his raging erection. I never thought I’d complain about too much sex but here I am.
So, apart from regular copulation, a billion pups later and still not much has happened other than Liams pelvic floor is ruined (that’s my assumption anyway!). On the plus side, It’s low on angst, the two are still together by the end of the book and they get their HEA.
