Ten years ago Sheriff’s Deputy Aaron George lost his wife and moved to Colton, hoping growing up in a small town would be better for his children. He’s gotten to know his community, including Mr. Larkin, the bouncy, funny science teacher. But when Larx is dragged unwillingly into administration, he stops coaching the track team and starts running alone. Aaron—who thought life began and ended with his kids—is distracted by a glistening chest and a principal running on a dangerous road.
Larx has been living for his kids too—and for his students at Colton High. He’s not ready to be charmed by Aaron, but when they start running together, he comes to appreciate the deputy’s steadiness, humor, and complete understanding of Larx’s priorities. Children first, job second, his own interests a sad last.
It only takes one kiss for two men approaching fifty to start acting like teenagers in love, even amid all the responsibilities they shoulder. Then an act of violence puts their burgeoning relationship on hold. The adult responsibilities they’ve embraced are now instrumental in keeping their town from exploding. When things come to a head, they realize their newly forged family might be what keeps the world from spinning out of control.
Amy knows how to write wonderful love stories. I have read many of her books and really enjoy each one. This one is about 2 mature men which I loved. Aaron and Larx were both married and have children. They are both bi-sexual but were really never with men before. Aaron has no experience and Larx has a little. Aaron lost his wife in an accident and Larx is divorced. Both have children living at home. Aaron is a sheriff’s deputy and Larx is the High School principal. They have both been taking take of their families and now want more for themselves.
Aaron sees Larx jogging everyday and finally has the nerve to stop and talk to him. From there they start seeing each other. Of course since they both have jobs and families it is difficult. They decide to jog together every morning and get to know each other from that.
I loved how they had to steal kisses so their children didn’t catch then. Larx is a great character to read for me. He is smart and has a great sense of humor and is very sarcastic. Aaron seems to be the strong silent type to me but when he sees Larx he knows he wants him and steps up to tell him that. Larx has always told his daughters when he got divorced and that he is bi so they are not shocked when they notice Larx is hanging around with Aaron. Kirby Aaron’s son doesn’t know but finds out and is OK with the fact that his dad is seeing Larx. Together these 2 families are great and very supportive of each other.
Larx is a fantastic principal and wants to help all the kids. He takes a interest in Kellan and Isaiah and wants to help them. These are 2 boys who are gay and in love but arent sure to come out. They do in a big way and something bad happens. Now that is only one of the sub stories going on in this book. You have Aaron trying to find out what happened and Larx trying to take care of the high school without losing his job. It all comes to together in the end and we get a HEA and both men getting what they want and deserve. I would suggest you hurry and read this before the next book comes out.
