Gabriel Wyatt is a big city Detective living in a small Ohio town. He expects a peaceful existence once he moves from Miami, Florida, but that’s the last thing he finds. Instead, Gabe discovers murder, mayhem, and one smart-mouthed stylist he can’t get out of his head.
Josh “Jazz” Roman is a small town salon owner with big dreams and an attitude to match. He finds himself in the middle of a case that brings the dreamy detective to his front door. Josh learns that the biggest threat to him isn’t a killer; it’s a man who wants something from him that he vowed to never give again – his heart.
Both men deny that there’s something between them, even though they’re drawn together like magnets. Can Gabe convince Josh to let down his guard or will Josh let past hurts destroy his chance at a happy future?
This was a brilliant read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I am an absolute sucker for MM romance/suspense stories they are my absolute favourite and this was a good one!
Josh owns his own salon and is the go to stylist for the small town of Blissville. He is fabulously sassy and refuses to be fit in to anyone’s stereotypical box. Gabe is a Blissville police detective who moved there with his ex boyfriend Kyle and decided to stay when their relationship ran its course, he is big, tough and manly with such a kind heart.
I thought Josh was written very well in this story, he is sassy, opinionated and strong but not in that over the top irritating way characters are sometimes written and he is oh so funny, he had me laughing out loud throughout this book. Gabe was really sweet and caring towards Josh and just wanted to prove to him he’s not like the guys from his past.
Their chemistry was so believable. It’s a slow burn but their passion for each other is insane. I love it when Josh tells Gabe he stays fit by doing pole dancing in his attic, sooooo funny and I really hope we read more about this in future books!
“I learned that I’d rather be insulted by you than flattered by someone else.”
Secondary characters in this book are well written and bring a lot to this story. I liked the alternating POV and I LOVED the little picture of Josh and Gabe at the start of each chapter – just as a little reminder from the amazing front cover.
The mystery element was well written and I genuinely didn’t figure out the murderer until right at the end so well done Amy for that as I always fancy myself a bit of an amateur detective and like to try and work out who it is early on.
I need to talk about the pets. I adore pets in books and I have a particular soft spot for German Shepherd dogs as I have one myself so I instantly loved reading about Gabe taking in a stray German Shepherd/lab cross who he names Buddy. Josh has a ferret called Jazzy, a Siamese cat called Diva and a freaking hilarious bird called Savage that flys round his salon randomly shouting bad words. SO funny.
I walked into the pet store one afternoon to buy treats for my Siamese cat, Diva, and my ferret, Jazzy, and was immediately propositioned by the bird for a blow job. It was love at first sight.
Loved this book and cannot wait to read the next book in the series!
