The Archangel Michael is tired. He fought wars and shoved his brother Lucifer out of heaven all before the Dark Ages rolled around. His role as protector of Israel now encompasses all of humanity, and while he performs his job perfectly, there’s little personal joy in it.
Until one night in a bar when he meets Asher.
Michael isn’t sure what it is about the vulnerable, self-deprecating Asher that calls to him, but something about his restrained depths, gentle smiles, and encyclopedic knowledge of flowers tugs at Michael in a way that can’t be denied. Too bad romance isn’t part of his mission.
Facing an eternity of perfect submission to God’s authority, rebellion stirs in Michael. Questions of free will, angelic vocation, and the role of love and lust demand answers that just might cost Michael his place in heaven.
Warnings: this novella contains urban fantasy, wings, angels doing unangelic things, erotic content, and playful blasphemy.
Simple and direct to the heart is the definition of a classic love story. This is a lunchtime read when you need a warm cozy moment. As a spirit lifter, I found this book intelligently written to satisfy the need for the divine in all of us. Well edited, the read was good and easy with a flow that never compromised the storyline with the indelicacies of poorly used phrases.
Leta Blake will go on my authors’ list for easy enjoyable reading.
The archangel Michael ventures into a neighborhood bar at the behest of his Father – God. He anticipates a pleasant assignment to assuage the prayers of a lonely heart suffering a broken soul.
As the archangel, over the eons Michael lays down his sword to do the business of granting wishes. His Father calls upon him to answer the prayers of a closet Jew. Asher is a gay man feeling despair and terrible aloneness. Michael finds him sitting solitary and drunk. He watches as Asher contemplates picking up a questionable sexual encounter. Knowing this would be a bad choice Michael intervenes.
Taunting Asher with lustful words of sexual foreplay, the angel takes a sobering Asher home with him. Their night of heated passion opens a new universe of love and sex for both males. One wrote the book on carnal knowledge the other just discovering the breathtaking fulfillment of lovemaking. The night turns into a morning reveal of new lives filled with the promise of love.
This difficult journey into the completion of faith and love is what makes this story interesting.
Archangel Michael is God’s favorite warrior angel. Heavenly wars at an end and the conquest of his brother Lucifer behind him. Michael has become his Father’s favorite contractor. He is beautiful. And over the eons has won the hearts and bodies of many but Asher manages to create love in the angelic heart where none existed before.
Asher is a doe eyed human male that blames himself for all his failings. At forty, he is determined to realize dreams of living happily as a gay man. God answers his prayers in the most sensual and pleasurable of ways. He sends his son Michael the archangel the inventor of wanton love.
The flow was spot on. Skill in superb creative storytelling made this an enjoyable read, one that I would enjoy reading again.
