At 19, Beck Barretti is living two lives. To his family, he’s a young man trying to find his way after years of battling a mental illness that nearly cost him everything. But to the rest of the world he’s just another privileged kid with problems. The truth doesn’t even lie somewhere in between because Beck’s entire life is actually about keeping secrets.
From the people he loves.
From the ones he doesn’t.
Spending a summer in Dare, Montana with family friends isn’t about starting fresh – it’s about escaping the crippling darkness that threatens to consume him.
Until one encounter that was supposed to mean nothing ends up changing everything…
Quinn Donovan had the life he’d always dreamed of until a brutal act of violence ripped it all away. Even though he’s found a new future working at the CB Bar Ranch in Dare, Montana, he’s not interested in trying to get back what he once had. All he wants is a quiet life that includes a job that’s worth getting up for each morning and hanging out with his best friend, a black and white Paint stallion named Koda.
But nothing prepares him for the strange twist of fate that brings not one, but two men into his life…
Brody Wilder is done hiding in the closet. As the son of a political scion, he’s spent his entire life hiding the truth about who he is just so he could inherit a legacy he never wanted. But those days are behind him and he’s starting a new life in rural Montana where he’s saving lives as a paramedic and building a successful construction business that would surely horrify his old-money, society-loving family.
After years of denying himself, he’s taking advantage of his newfound freedom by indulging in random, meaningless sexual encounters that are about pleasure, not emotion.
So no one is more surprised than him when one night in the back room of a sordid gay club leads to something more…
Can three men who came together by chance find the hope they need to build a future with each other, or will they end up letting their fears tear them apart?

Why do I even try to outdo myself writing reviews for this author? She is just that good. Readers find themselves in a whirlwind of friends and family who have each others backs and each other. In this crossover series, Sloane Kennedy reintroduces her series, Finding , The Protectors and Baretti Security and blend them up so smoothly, you wouldn’t know which way to turn first. Again, it is just THAT good.
What I like about Sloane books, there is never a time you are left wondering who anyone is. There is always a backstory, so that the reader has some understanding of the person on the page. Even had I not read the previous stories (which I have!); or known of Beck, his backstory made it felt as if I did. The author was thorough and a delight to read. I will continue to seek out her books knowing that I am in for a wild ride and major enjoyment.
In this book, there was lots of hurt and pain and sorrow. Beck Baretti, had gone through so much at such a young age and I applaud his need to assert himself and find himself away from his family. …most days I was just numb, but every once in awhile, there’d be something so deep inside of me that would break free…like a sliver of sunshine during a violent thunderstorm.
As a widower, Quinn Donavan had had a taste of his happily ever after. After losing his husband, he never thought that love would be in the works for him again. As a horse trainer, he had been hired to help ready the horses for rides on the ranch in Dare. Meeting Beck and Quinn threw him for a loop and he was sure he would never be the same again.
Brody Wilder, EMT and budding construction owner, a member of one of the most influential and very conservative political families in the country… had to hide himself and his sexuality. Being disowned by his family when he decided enough was enough, he got as far away from them to live his life as he wanted.
These three should not have worked, but with a very sexy beginning, and a meeting that was short of explosive, these men were not letting the other get away no matter the secrets they each held. This was a somewhat painful read as memories and past events were revealed. Yet, we got to see each man grow individual and with each other. I am definitely keeping this on the to be read again shelf and give it two thumbs up in recommendation.
