Life makes no promises, and sometimes, you draw the short straw.
Landon Johnston’s life came to a grinding halt seven months ago, when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
With the encouragement of his grandmother, Landon works his way out of his slump and tries to live life while he still can.
Deciding he doesn’t want to drag anyone else down his morbid path, Landon gives up all friendships and denies himself love. It’s better this way, because all he has to offer is eventual heartache and sadness.
While traveling the world, Landon meets Abel Matheson, a free-spirited, unedited, and nerve-grating man who was supposed to only be a one-night-stand.
Despite Landon’s insistence that he can’t form a relationship with his current diagnoses, Abel is persistent and will not be ignored.
Fighting against all his ingrained urges to run, Landon finds himself drawn down the road he swore he’d never take.
Intimacy grows and bonds form…
Only… Abel doesn’t know Landon is sick.
How can anyone love a man with no future?
Telling him might cause him to run, but staying silent means living a lie. A lie which will only reveal itself in time.
This. Book. Broke my heart. Healed my soul. Made me cry. Laugh. Made me Hug my daughter and kiss my husband. No regrets.
Nicky James is a new to me author and when I read her note to the reader in this book…I knew I was in for an emotional story.
“Are you afraid of reading this book? Afraid you might be getting into something too heart wrenching and real you may not be able to handle it? To be honest, I was afraid of writing this book and wasn’t sure where it would take me. I should start off by saying, this is a journey of life not death. One that will hold no miracle cure, but one that will take the path it is set out to take. Does this frighten you? We are only human, of course it does. It frightened me. What I wanted to bring to this story and show to you, the reader, is that life is worth living. No one is promised tomorrow, but it doesn’t mean we should give up on today. Everyone deserves happiness and someone to love. Someone who will hold their hand through thick or thin and never give up on them even when times get tough. This book is about not giving up when faced with despair and knowing every day is precious and worth living. It about finding that silver-lining and enjoying every second.”
This is the story of Landon, who is living with terminal brain cancer and checking items off his bucket list. He never planned to fall in love, but somewhere along the line fate stepped in and brought him Abel…a man who wanted to love him. Abel has to fight for every moment with Landon, and it isn’t until Landon finally tells him he is sick that it all makes sense. Landon fights Abel’s love, he is scared and doesn’t want anyone else affected by his illness. He finally takes his own advice on fear, “Fear is in your head. You’re letting it own you. Once you stop giving it power, you’ll jump.”, and allows himself to be loved and experience the love of a lifetime.
“I’m not going to watch you die. I’m going to help you live. … Every minute you have left on this Earth, I will love you. Let me love you.”
Make sure you bring tissues. This is a very powerful story one that I am sure I will remember forever, and Nicky James has earned herself a spot on my keep any eye out authors.. 5 Stars
