The White House, infiltrated.
The president, running for his life.
A traitorous general, intent on burning the world to the ground.
When everything falls apart, who do you trust?
President Jack Spiers fled Washington DC on the heels of a devastating attack on CIA headquarters, masterminded by one of America’s own, former General Porter Madigan. While the world believes Jack was killed in the bombing, he embarks on a wild infiltration mission, smuggling himself into occupied Russia to rescue the love of his life: former Secret Service Agent and First Gentleman Ethan Reichenbach.
Reunited, Jack, Ethan, and deposed Russian president Sergey Puchkov, along with President Elizabeth Wall—the only person left in Washington DC who Jack trusts—must work together. They piece together a desperate plan, hunting Madigan to the ends of the earth and the bitter frigidity of the Arctic, where Madigan’s world-shattering doomsday plan comes together.
Outnumbered, outmaneuvered, and outgunned, Jack, Ethan, Sergey, and the rest of the team struggle to put a stop to Madigan and his army. In the desolate extremes of the Arctic, their resolve, their strength, and even their love is tested, pushed to the absolute limits as choices must be made: choices that pit the fate of the world against the love in their hearts, and the loves of their life.
As the world crumbles around them, Jack and Ethan find themselves waging a war on two fronts—against an enemy they can see, and another, hiding within their ranks.
Who can be trusted when the enemy is within you?
5+ amazingly fantastic well deserved shiny stars!
This whole series is brilliant and each book has been better than the last and this third book is no exception. The writing style is beautiful and the sheer amount of research that must have gone into this book is truly outstanding.
This book picks up where book two ends and I definitely recommend reading these books in order. Madigan and his side kick Cook with their army of prisoners and delinquents are continuing their efforts in the arctic to create total devastations across the world and then re-create their ideal world.
‘A new dawn is coming’.
Jack, Ethan, Scott and Sergey are on a race across arctic Russia and Serbia to reach Madigan in time to prevent the inevitable catastrophe. That is as much as you are getting out of me about the overall plot as this just NEEDS to be read and I don’t want to spoil one single thing and ruin your enjoyment of reading this spectacular book.
“When this is over,” Ethan started, whispering. “I’m going to take you to a beach. Some faraway island where it’s just us and the ocean. Perfect water, crystal clear, as far as you can see. Warm white sand forever. We’ll lie in the surf, and I’ll make love to you for days.”
Oh Ethan and Jack! How I wish I could just ramble endlessly about these two. They are so sweet and so god damn in love. The way they speak and act with each other, their passion, their chemistry and sheer protectiveness is just beautiful to read.
“I’ve got you,” Jack breathed. “Always.”
One particular chapter where they are sleeping beneath the stars on a beach in the arctic is just something else. So beautifully written and the added bonus of a very hot under the sleeping bag nookie session!
“I can never leave you, no matter what’s at stake. You are my world, Ethan. My everything.”
But its not just about Jack and Ethan this book follows the lives of many different couples and characters and every single one is well developed. I found myself fully invested in all of their stories and at no point did I begrudge the focus being away from the MCs as reading about the other characters and how they fit in to the overall picture just enhanced how truly marvellous this book really is.
Jack and Ethan’s friendships with other world leaders and other people throughout the globe of different nationalities and religions really paints a lovely picture of how the world could be someday and it is a wonderful place to be.
Now I must talk about the hunt for the mole. We know from book two that there is a mole somewhere but that is about all we know and all the way through book three I was constantly trying to guess who it was. Every character that was written about I found myself analysing them and questioning if they were the mole. This was all very well written and I had several people I had ear marked as potentials and I never could figure it out until it was revealed which I loved as I hate it when I can guess the outcome.
I found myself frightened for one of my favourite characters one minute then laughing out loud the next and the transitions were just seamless. I was in a constant state of nervous anticipation at what was about to happen but the elements of humour definitely provided some light relief.
“Coleman’s busting out of here in a few days. You got some spare rooms in one of your sugar daddy’s palaces? We both wanna be somewhere warm after that shitshow in Santa’s hellhole” – Doc to Cooper.
The ending of this book was sheer perfection. That is as much as I will say as I don’t want to spoil anything but it was the right length with plenty of answers and resolutions. I cannot explain how amazing this series is and particularly this book. It is one of my all time favourites and I don’t give that accolade away freely. I cannot wait to read more from Tal!
“I’m here. I’m with you all the way.”
