The White House, infiltrated.
The president, running for his life.
A traitorous general, intent on burning the world to the ground.
When everything falls apart, who do you trust?
President Jack Spiers fled Washington DC on the heels of a devastating attack on CIA headquarters, masterminded by one of America’s own, former General Porter Madigan. While the world believes Jack was killed in the bombing, he embarks on a wild infiltration mission, smuggling himself into occupied Russia to rescue the love of his life: former Secret Service Agent and First Gentleman Ethan Reichenbach.
Reunited, Jack, Ethan, and deposed Russian president Sergey Puchkov, along with President Elizabeth Wall—the only person left in Washington DC who Jack trusts—must work together. They piece together a desperate plan, hunting Madigan to the ends of the earth and the bitter frigidity of the Arctic, where Madigan’s world-shattering doomsday plan comes together.
Outnumbered, outmaneuvered, and outgunned, Jack, Ethan, Sergey, and the rest of the team struggle to put a stop to Madigan and his army. In the desolate extremes of the Arctic, their resolve, their strength, and even their love is tested, pushed to the absolute limits as choices must be made: choices that pit the fate of the world against the love in their hearts, and the loves of their life.
As the world crumbles around them, Jack and Ethan find themselves waging a war on two fronts—against an enemy they can see, and another, hiding within their ranks.
Who can be trusted when the enemy is within you?
Enemy Within is book three in the Executive Office Series by Tal Bauer . This book is a continuation of the first 2.5 books and needs to be read in order to understand completely. The characters remain the same from the first 2.5 books and there is some timeline revisits and a lot of remembering from the previous books. This story is told in an Alternating POV or Third Person Multiple. This POV allows us to get inside our characters heads, and follow them each as they all work on saving the world from the Crazy General Madigan while working against someone on the inside who wants Madigan to succeed.
To say I loved this story is an understatement. It is, in one word, Brilliant! I really do not want to go into details about the story because I would hate to ruin anything for any reader out there.. this is a story you MUST experience as it is intended. I will warn you that if you are going into this story looking for a lot of hot man on man action, you will probably be disappointed. While there are plenty of scenes that are appropriate to the storyline, after all, you can’t really stop and get it on with your lover while you are trying to save the world from madman – I think what was there was perfect.
Throughout this story, we get to see all the characters as mentioned and our couples are all there in one way or another – there is President Jack Spiers and his First Gentleman, former Secret Service agent Ethan Reichenbach; Russian President Sergey Puchkov and Sasha Andreyev; and Lieutenant Adam Cooper and Prince Faisal al-Saud. There are a lot of emotional times between these three couples as they are uncertain each time they see each other if it will be the last – will they all make it out of the arctic alive? One thing is for sure, these six and their teams are Outnumbered, outmaneuvered, and outgunned yet they don’t ever give up. Let me tell you the submarine scenes…breathtaking, literally … like, hyperventilating and on the edge of your seat, breath-holding & heart pounding! Be warned!!
While Ethan, Jack, and crew are all out trying to actively save the world, there are people among them who are working for Mad-Man Madigan – people they trust, people they know, people who are reporting to Madigan their every move. Who? Why? When? Those are all thing you are going to have to find out as you read the story.
Make sure when you start this book you literally have all day and night to read, because once you pick it up – you’re not going to want to put it down and it is a long book coming it at over 450 pages. Cover to cover it is packed with action, mystery, breath-holding moments to pulse-pounding excitement– I laughed at some of the crazy things that happened or certain moments and cried during certain moments. I totally could keep reading about these characters, there is soo much more that could be written, not that there was anything left gaping open, no cliffhangers, It is just one of those storylines that could easily go on…Overall, totally loved it!!
5 Brilliant Stars – and now I wonder – when can we have more?
