Maverick trauma surgeon Ashton “Snow” Frost keeps the world at a distance, relying only on his three closest friends to keep him connected. But when a ghost from their past returns to Cincinnati, Snow stands to lose everyone he loves. Framed for murder and reeling from attacks on his friends, Snow is pushed to his breaking point.
Jude Torres won’t let the doc shatter. The paramedic has been attracted to the doctor since he first laid eyes on him at the hospital, even if the arrogant, solitary man doesn’t fit into any of his plans. One hot, reckless kiss shows that Snow isn’t who he appears to be. And one night together will never be enough. Jude will fight for the doc.
Fight to keep him whole. Fight to keep him safe. Fight to simply keep him.
Oh, how I love this series! So far, these authors are reeling me in, winding me up, and keeping me so freaking entertained – Bravo! This book is smokin’ hot – Snow, he realllly surprised me in this book and the rest of the guys, well hang on! It’s about to get real! My review is going to be a lot about the relationship between Snow and Jude…because, wow Snow does a COMPLETE 180 change and it’s a huge part of the plot watching it unfold!
Shatter is book two in the Unbreakable Bonds series from authors Jocelynn Drake & Rinda Elliott. This book features the same group of characters from book one, Shiver, and there is a lot of story overlapping, continuation, and history – as such, this book is NOT a standalone and the series is best enjoyed read in order. Narrated from first person, multiple POV – which is a plus as it really allows the reader to get inside the characters mind. The central characters to the series are the same group of men from Shiver including Lucas, he is the glue of the group; Snow, he is the brother; Lowe, he is the badass protector; and Ian, he is their heart. These four have gone through a lot together. So, when you start messing with one of them…you get the entire crew. They are fiercly protective of each other and will do anything for each other. They are family and unbreakable. In addition we have Andrei – Lucas’ significant other and Detective Hollis who has an increasingly large role in this book.
The main players in this book are Dr. Ashton “Snow” Frost and Jude Torres. These two men have worked around each other for years at the hospital. Jude has lusted after Snow aching for the right moment to conquer Snow. Snow, he isn’t the most friendly man at the hospital, some may even call him cold (pun intended), behind his back he is referred to as “The Surgeon General,” and has been known to be a bit of a hardass. *snicker* (Jude loves his hardass) My heart went out to Snow, he hasn’t had an easy life. He only relies on himself and his 3 friends – Lucas being the closest to him. Throughout this book things are revealed about Snow’s upbringing and past that will break your heart. Jude, he is a self-assured man who is full of love, life, happiness – surrounded by a huge loving family and the type of person to want to help others. He is just what Snow needs.
The relationship between these two develops sorta fast after a chance meeting at a club and then some hot “let’s get to know each other sex” – however, the pace works in their story. There is a bit of adjustment for Snow, and I wondered how this would be handled, you see Snow has always been the Dominant partner. He has been searching for different means to satisfy his needs, needs he doesn’t even fully understand…when he tries his usual répertoire with Jude, well…“Tell me something, Jude. You like to scream?” Snow’s hand tightened on his shoulder as he thrust against Jude’s ass again. “I like men who want to be held down, want to give up everything just for the feel of my dick in their ass. I like things rough, Jude. Do you?” … Imagine Snow’s utter shock when the tables are flipped with Jude coming out as the Dominant partner, not allowing Snow to hide from him. “You think you know what you want, but you don’t.” The doc’s eyes slid nearly shut. Jude leaned in and rubbed his nose along the light stubble on Snow’s hard jaw until his mouth was right by his ear. He licked water off Snow’s skin. “You know what I think?” Jude lowered his voice and leaned in until his lips were right beside Snow’s ear. “I think you’ve had it all wrong. I don’t even think you understand what you need. It’s not really pain, is it?” Jude’s open attitude and being upfront with Snow is probably why these two worked out. Snow needed something..someone to hold all his pieces together while simultaneously allowing him to Shatter.
From that moment on it’s GAME.ON. Jude has Snow a quivering, panting, moaning mess. And he LOVED it! “Jude made him [Snow] want things he had no business wanting. Like a relationship.” Those feelings for Snow are totally foreign — but I was so happy that he didn’t run from the feelings. He simply went for it! “He had fallen for Jude. Hard. He was completely, head-over-heels in love with the man.”
While the interaction and romance between Jude and Snow is hot and a large part of the story, this book also heavy on the Suspense/Crime element as the past comes back to haunt the men, new crimes and problems arise, and tragedy strikes the group — forever changing their lives in the blink of an eye. Will everyone make it through this book or will the Unbreakable Bonds be shattered?
I highly recommend this series – so far it’s been an awesome ride! I think you will come to find you love Snow just as much as I do after you read this book and the authors did a great job in matching him with a man who completes him in ways he didn’t even know he needed!
5 stars and now I am sprinting to the next book in the series!
