If short-tempered Jason can open his heart and life to optimistic Abe, he might finally find the family he craves.
Short-tempered, arrogant heart surgeon Jason Garcia grew up wanting a close-knit family, but believes he ruined those dreams when he broke up his marriage. The benefit of divorce is having as much random sex as he wants, and it’s a benefit Jason is exploiting when he meets a sweet, shy man at a bar and convinces him to go home for a no-strings-attached night of fun.
Eight years living in Las Vegas hasn’t dimmed Abe Green’s optimism, earnestness, or desire to find the one. When a sexy man with lonely eyes propositions him, Abe decides to give himself a birthday present—one night of spontaneous fun with no thoughts of the future. But one night turns into two and then three, and Abe realizes his heart is involved.
For the first time, Abe feels safe enough with someone he respects and adores to let go of his inhibitions in the bedroom. If Jason can get past his own inhibitions and open his heart and his life to Abe, he might finally find the family he craves.
When I read Cardeno C.’s work I expect three things, at least one slightly damaged MC, good ol’ Feelz, and a happy ending – this book gives you all of those and more!! The Half of Us is book four in The Family Series which is a series of books based on characters who are yearning to find their HEA, their happy place, their family. Sometimes that journey is an easy one, but for our guys in this story it isn’t that simple. For Jason Garcia, super doctor extraordinaire he has already gone down the route of building a family once and now he is simply on the prowl looking for a hot man to fill his needs and then moving on. Abe Green is out celebrating his birthday and he decides his birthday gift to himself will be to take the hot looking man home for the night, this is totally not something he would ever do normally, but what the hell – it is his birthday! Jason and Abe don’t plan on a repeat performance, they both know the score when Jason takes Abe home – this is essentially a one and done. That is until Jason falls asleep. A little while later, back at the same bar Jason see’s Abe again. He thinks twice about approaching Abe again as he never has repeat performers in his bed – but what the hell, they didn’t actually get to do anything last time so this isn’t really a repeat, right? With some smooth (not) talking and Abe’s desire to have a repeat as well, the two end up having their night together. The sex between these two is H.O.T. and there is lots of it!!
Something changes in Jason’s way of thinking – he likes Abe. He doesn’t want anything serious; however, it would be a lot easier if he had one steady guy to hook up with, right? So Jason sets out to find Abe based on casual information Abe dropped during their two nights together. The two start a casual thing. Things change when Jason walks into his daughters teachers room only to see his lover, Abe, is the notorious Mr. Green his daughter looks up to. Needless to say, Abe is totally confused. Jason is single. Jason is Gay. Jason is sitting here in my classroom with his wife and child. This is definitely a WTF moment of epic proportions!! What has Jason been hiding? Is this why he usually only wants one night stands? All of these questions are flying through Abe’s head as he tries to comprehend what is happening.
Don’t worry, CC doesn’t leave you hanging for long, but I am going to leave you right there – trust me you want to read this book to find out what is going on!! It should be noted that I have both read this book and listened to it on audiobook and I loved it both ways. However, Ezekiel Robison is a fucking brilliant narrator and he brings this story to life!! I absolutely LOVED this book in audio format, I was laughing and I was screaming — all while I was driving to work. Ezekiel has a voice that is smooth like velvet and it will enthrall you while you listen to him give life to CC’s work! If you have not listened to this narrator, you must give him a try!
Overall, this is a 5 star book both in written and audio – I highly recommend it and the entire series to anyone who loves m/m contemporary romance!
