Vannguard Shaw has spent the last ten years serving a life sentence and adjusting to the ache of solitude. He accepts his fate, a sacrifice for the only man he ever loved and the one person who saw beyond his rough edges.
Drayton grew up with a trust fund and pre-planned future, but an unexpected encounter one night forces him to abandon everything and start from scratch. He is now a self-made man and developer of one of the most sought after electric exotic automobiles in the world with a fortune greater than that of his birthright. Yet, he’d surrender it all—again—for the only man who’s still ever-present in his heart.
After a decade and entirely too much distance between them, Vann is suddenly released back into a world that has been nothing but cruel. Drayton never lost hope they would once again reunite and pick up where they left off, but Vann’s stubborn nature and repeated encounters with a heartbreaking world prove to be a challenge.
Vann needs to tap into his fighting spirit’s reservoir of strength and hope life doesn’t punish him for taking a chance. Only then will he realize his own value and feel worthy enough to finally have Drayton’s heart. And their chance at forever.
“Sometimes, you just need one person to make you feel like you fit in this world.”
This book is amazing! This is book 5 in the series and they just keep getting better and better. You can read these books as a standalone but why would you when you can enjoy the series?!!.
“I love you. Always. Forever.”
Vann and Drayton meet in high school when Vann protects Drayton from being picked on by bullies, this leads to friendship and eventually a relationship lasting 7 years until one dreadful night when everything changes and their worlds get ripped apart.
‘I knew the power of words. How a few spoken sounds could erupt a storm of emotional chaos and soul-splitting pain. He had learned their painful and destructive power from his father. But he had experienced their healing and strengthening power from Drayton.’
Vann ends up in prison serving a life sentence for saving Dray’s life and Dray is left to carry on living without the only person who has ever truly been by his side and shown total loyalty. Dray sends Vann a latter every week. He owns a successful electric car company – D&V Infinity and pours all his resources in to getting Vann out of prison and after 10 long years he has been successful.
“The only positive of being away from you for so long is that I now get to enjoy falling for you all over again.”
Upon release Dray picks Vann up from prison and he has to serve his parole in Halfway House owned by Matt and Julian. This book is all about Vann’s transition back in to a changed world and the relationship between these two. There is a fair bit of angst in this book and some encounters with parents who should never have been parents but the overall theme is of hope and moving forwards.
“Always?” Vann asked, avoiding eye contact.
Drayton tucked his fingers under Vann’s chin, tipping his head and holding him in place until their eyes met. “Forever.”
In the ten years Vann is incarcerated neither of them has been with anyone else which leads to some pretty hot scenes when they eventually get their god damn weekend alone!
“I need you to know, you are the one constant in my life and all roads always lead back to you,”
This book is VERY romantic and heartbreakingly sweet. Their love for each other is so genuine and special and it was just beautiful to read. If I’m totally honest it’s all pretty unrealistic but I literally couldn’t care less as I loved the story that much and was totally drawn in by these well developed MCs. The writing style is just wonderful and I could have highlighted a quote from every page.
“You’re the only one I let in and I know that works both ways.”
“Why me?” Vann chewed his lip. “What did I do to deserve that?”
“Because you’re you. And I wouldn’t be me without you.”
Secondary characters in this book are great. There’s a few idiots a long the way but they are all well written and really add to this story. We get a brief catch up with the characters from the other books and Matt and Julian obviously have quite a big role in this story.
This was by far my favourite in this series. One of those where you are sad again and wonder how you will ever start a new book after this! Looking forward to the next one!
“You’ll always be my sexy, nerdy, sappy happy place.”
“I’ll be whatever you want me to be as long as you’re by my side.”
