A story of two men and the boundless love that forever changed them.
Vannguard Shaw has spent the last ten years serving a life sentence and adjusting to the ache of solitude. He accepts his fate, a sacrifice for the only man he ever loved and the one person who saw beyond his rough edges.
Drayton grew up with a trust fund and pre-planned future, but an unexpected encounter one night forces him to abandon everything and start from scratch. He is now a self-made man and developer of one of the most sought after electric exotic automobiles in the world with a fortune greater than that of his birthright. Yet, he’d surrender it all—again—for the only man who’s still ever-present in his heart.
After a decade and entirely too much distance between them, Vann is suddenly released back into a world that has been nothing but cruel. Drayton never lost hope they would once again reunite and pick up where they left off, but Vann’s stubborn nature and repeated encounters with a heartbreaking world prove to be a challenge.
Vann needs to tap into his fighting spirit’s reservoir of strength and hope life doesn’t punish him for taking a chance. Only then will he realize his own value and feel worthy enough to finally have Drayton’s heart. And their chance at forever.
A great addition to this amazing series ~ a second chance love story that will melt your heart ~ D + V = ∞
A Worthy Man is book 5 in Jaime Reese’s amazing series, The Men of Halfway House. While the stories are all interconnected, they can each be read as standalones…I however, would recommend reading them all or you will miss out on some great books!
What would you do if the love of your life was ripped away? If your soulmate was incarcerated for a crime that saved your life – and then refused to allow you to visit? This is the hand that Drayton has been living for the past ten years as his other half,Vannguard has been serving a life sentence. However, life is changing at the beginning of this book. Because Vann is getting paroled, something Vann never expected and something Dray never gave up hope for, today he will see his lover again. As if this isn’t enough to make the readers emo – Jaime Reese has a special treat in-store. You see, every week Dray wrote Vann – and every week he longed for a reply. They never came. Now however, Vann is coming home and with him a cheap notebook from the prison commesary with every single inch of space covered with his replies to Dray. Reading those messages from Vann to Dray were enough to rip my heart out and then watch it get stomped on. So bring kleenex!
Beyond being an incredibly emotional story – this story is about love and second chances. It’s about perservering even when it looks like there is no hope. It’s about finding your soulmate and never letting go. It’s about rebuilding your life, when you’re afraid and have nothing. It’s about D + V = ∞ – and it’s a story you don’t want to miss.
“Sometimes, you just need one person to make you feel like you fit in this world.”
As you read this story you are taken through the readjustment phase of how a ex-con reassimilates into life as a civilian again. It’s not easy and it adds another layer to the story. Watching the previous characters from books in the series help and come together made the story all the more realistic.
Part of the reassimilation issue for Vann has to do with his buried demons. He has lived a life that wasn’t pretty. He was told he was worthless from a young age, never felt like he deserved Dray, and now after prison he is battling old demons along with freshly earned scars from being inside. He isn’t sure he is worthy of Dray … Dray wants to love, protect, and heal Vann…
“I’ve waited ten years to have you back, and if I have to wait a little longer for you to come to me, then I’ll fucking wait. However long you need, I’ll be here waiting… for you. Because I love you.”
Will these two get their happily ever after or is their love not strong enough? It’s an emotional ride but I promise you if you read the book you will love it!!
5+ Stars – Highly recommended!
